Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ChitChat ("we", "us") processes your personal data when you use our real-time conversation translation service. We are the data controller of your personal data and process it in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Swedish data protection law.
1. Data we collect
- Account data: email address, display name, authentication identifiers.
- Billing data: subscription status and customer reference handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We never store full card numbers.
- Conversation audio & transcripts: audio you record is transmitted to speech-to-text, translation, and text-to-speech providers solely to deliver the translation. Transcripts may be saved to your conversation history if you have an active account.
- Technical data: IP address, device, browser, and basic usage logs needed for security and service reliability.
2. Purposes and legal bases
- Provide the translation service and your account — performance of contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Process payments and prevent fraud — legal obligation and legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(c) and (f)).
- Secure and improve the service — legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Marketing communications — only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
3. Sharing
We share data with vetted processors only to the extent necessary: cloud hosting, authentication, payment processing (Stripe), and the speech and translation model providers used to deliver the core feature. Audio is processed for translation only — never sold or used to train third-party models for advertising.
4. International transfers
Some processors may be located outside the EU/EEA. In such cases transfers are protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism under the GDPR.
5. Retention
We retain account and conversation data for as long as your account is active and for a limited period afterwards as required by Swedish accounting law (currently seven years for billing records). You may delete your conversation history at any time from within the app.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing of your personal data, as well as the right to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@darvsta.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY).
7. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit and strict access controls, to protect your data.
